WHAT'S YOUR DREAM?

I think one of my favourite films of all times is Billy Elliot. I'm sure you know the story, but just in case... Billy Elliot is an eleven-year-old child who lives in the north of England and grows up in a time when unemployment was at a peak so life was really hard.

In this tough world he finds out that he has a passion for ballet. As you may imagine, his father is NOT very happy about it. In fact, he strongly disapproves of Billy's love for dance. But Billy is determined to make his dream come true...

I like it because it's a film about self-improvement and determination. It's a very inspiring story and it makes you want to work hard to get your dreams.

What about YOU? Do you have A DREAM? Are you determined to make it come true? If so, share your story with everybody else on the blog.

Or else... you sure have A FAVOURITE FILM. Tell us about it and why it is your favourite film.

In the menawhile, I'll let you have a taste of Billy Elliot. And if you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for? GET IT FROM YOUR LIBRARY AND ENJOY IT!

I love this film. In fact, I really love the cinema. Billy Elliot reminds me when I was younger, because I dreamt with being a famous dancer too. I studied dancing at the Conservatory, but I had many problems because I was not very tall and thin. So, I practised for 2 or 3 hours every day. When I was 23 years old, I pasted fifth curse. At that time, I realized I would never became a great dancer, but, I tried it and I proved to me teacher that I could do it.
Now, I have a new dream. Have you ever seen the film "The last days of Eden"? It´s my favourite film. Like a main character, I would like working for a NGO and I wolud like working in some african or south american country. I´m trying to make it come true. How? I´m studing English and I´m assisting to a special curse about nursing.
See the film, please! I´m sure you´ll like it.

I have a dream. My dream is that I can be able to speak English and I haven´t to say "Sorry, I don´t speak English". What am I doing to get it?. well, I am going to study English two days a week, and I am going to listen English every day for a while and I am going to speak English when I will have a chance.

I´m going to write about "14 Km", it isn´t my favourite film but is the last I saw it. Is interesting because the film talk about the dreams of the third world to get a better life. The film´s title is the distance between Africa and Spain in kilometers, but the real distance (economic distance, social distance, cultural distance...) is a lot of bigger.

Hi Carol: Your story is very interesting. I haven´t seen that film but I promise see it if I have the opportunity. I am very keen on cinema too.
I think that you have to say Billy Elliot remind me of...instead reminds me when.... I think that is better "became a famous dancer" instead "being a famous dancer". I suggest that is better say "passed fifth course" than "pasted". Some African country sounds me very strange but I don´t know what is the correct form. "I´m trying to make it come true" I think that is better without "come". Finally, "about nursing"sounds strange, perhaps is better "for nurses", I don´t Know. Anybody can help me?

Hi Nieves and Carol,
It’s true, you should say “it reminds me of when”. Also, the preposition after the verb “dream” is “of”. In this case, the correct sentence would be “I dreamt of being a famous dancer” or “I dreamt of becoming…”. The verb “become” would perhpaps be more appropritae but both verbs are correct.
As for the past simple form of the verb “pass”, you’re right, it’s “passed”, so you should say “I passed the fifth course”. And you’re also right about the expression “for nurses”. It sounds much better than “about nursing”.
On the other hand, “some African country” and “I’m trying to make it come true” are perfectly correct.
One suggestion, try to select just one or two (at the most) mistakes from each piece of writing.
Thanks for your contributions. They are all very interesting.

Thanks Nieves and Carmen.
And, Nieves, if you want to watch "The last days of Eden", I have it.
And a question, Carmen: Is it correct "It is a lot of bigger"?

Hi Carol,
No, you can't say "it's a lot of bigger". You should say "it's a lot bigger".
By the way, I'm second on your list to borrow "The Last Days of Eden". Thanks,
Carmen

"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve.
Jesus, does anyone?"

These are the words of a character of a beautiful movie entitled "Stand by me" by Rob Reiner(1986), and although I don't share the same opinion I think that this movie is absolutely delightful.

I don’t have a favourite film as such, but there’s one –The Bridges of Madison County- I liked very much when I saw it last year. You all probably know it, but in case you don’t, I’ll tell you briefly about its plot.
This film is about a married woman who gets alone at home for a couple of weeks and, during that time, she comes across an interesting man and they live an intense affair. The film shows how their relationship progresses in a gradual and natural way, although it happens in just few days, and presents the controversial situation the woman goes through when she has to make a decision about her life from then on.
I think it’s a very good film at making viewers understand how characters feel. And also, it gives an example of facing problems with a brave attitude. If you haven’t, I recommend that you see it!

Hi Nieves, How are you? We are fine. We were whatching your post and we have found some mistakes. In the sentence "My dream is that I can be able to speak English and I haven´t to say "Sorry, I don´t speak English"" we think that is better to say: "my dream is to be able to speak English and I won't have to say "Sorry, I don´t speak English"".
The other thing is that we don't understand the last sentence. We don't know that you want to say.

Dear Aurora, we think that when you said "I love to know news places" you should say "I love Knowing new places".

Hi, everybody. Well, we are two students (Guillermo and Rodrigo). We are going to talk about our favourites films.
Guillermo: My favourite film is "The Lords of the rings" because I really love fantastic cinema. Although the film is very large it makes me feel very cheerful. The atmosphere of the film is really great, and it has a good sound track. Finally I would like to see a fourth film.
Rodrigo: Oh Oh, Guillermo you are very confused, the best film of the history of the cinema is "The godfather", the plot summary is about the formation of a child into a mafia boss called Don Vito Corleone, it tell us the day-to-day of family Corleone. This film makes me feel excited and happy. The movie have a star cast with Marlon Brando, Robert de Niro, Al Pacino...
For the movie fans, the film count with several mythical phrases, if you would like to know its ask me.
Finally the film have a good sound track too.
Guillermo:Ha Ha Ha, the actors of "The lord of the rings" are better than actors of "Godfather".You can see Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood and...Gollum.
Rodrigo: Dear guillermo.Don´t make me laugh. I totally disagree with you.
